Mentoring Matters Peer Mentor: STEM Creativity and Research
Alyssa is currently a junior at Texas State University majoring in Biochemistry with a double minor in Biology and Forensic Psychology. She currently serves as the peer mentor for the STEM Creativity and Research Strand. She participated in the 2017 Mentoring Matters program as an undergraduate mentee in the STEM G.I.R.L.S. strand.
Alyssa has undergraduate research experience in Texas State’s HSI High Impact Program: SURE (Summer Undergraduate Research Experience) and volunteers as undergraduate research assistant for Dr. Jennifer Irvin, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. She is very active in the Texas State community. She is a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, various pre-medicine organizations, and serves as the President of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity.
Her hobbies include crafting, cuddling with her cat, sleeping and watching Netflix.

Harkiran Kaur, Microbiology
Mentoring Matters Peer Mentor: STEM G.I.R.L.S. Strand
Kiran is currently a junior at Texas State, majoring in microbiology and minoring in Biochemistry. She currently serves as the peer mentor for the STEM Leadership strand. She participated in the 2017 Mentoring Matters program as an undergraduate mentee in the STEM G.I.R.L.S. (Girls Integrating Research in Learning & Service) strand. Her hometown is Dallas, TX and she is currently working as a medical scribe in the emergency room at Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels. Her hobbies are running, playing with her dog and reading.
Heloisa Santos, Biology
Mentoring Matters Peer Mentor: STEM Leadership Strand
Heloisa is a junior at Texas State University. She goes by ‘Lola’. She currently serves as the peer mentor for the STEM Leadership strand, which is also the strand that she participated in as an undergraduate STEM mentee for the 2017 Mentoring Matters program.
Hobbies: soccer, logic and jigzaw puzzles, playing with her dog, and binge watching her favorite TV shows.
