The primary goal of the STEM G.I.R.L.S. is to empower and support today’s STEM women and how to navigate through a “chilly climate” in their chosen STEM field. The current focus of the strand is collaborating on a social action project that focuses on steps that can be taken to bridge gender gaps.

Throughout the course of the semester we will have three strand meetings lasting for two hours each:

  • February 25th, 2018:
    • Self Care and Time Management
    • At the first STEM GIRLS meeting on Feb. 25th, we focused on the mindfulness of journaling, time management, and self care. Expectations for the program were established and a guest speaker from shine on yoga focused on the topics of positive stress. Other topics of focus included the stress of participating in a male dominated feel, unpacking experiences and the chilly climate in stem.
  • March 25th, 2018:
    • Gender Identity in STEM Discussion
  • April 28th, 2018:
    • Social Action and Service to the Community

We also attended the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Conference on March 2nd, 2018 along with participants from other two strands along with our faculty mentor- Dr. Kristina Collins.
